St. Luke’s Church, Defence Colony, joyfully celebrated the Parish Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) Annual Day together with the Conclusion of the Rosary Month on 31st May 2026, bringing together parishioners from various BEC units in a spirit of faith, unity, and thanksgiving. The celebration served as a beautiful occasion to strengthen community bonds while honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary at the close of the month dedicated to her.
The day began with a solemn procession, as parishioners, BEC members, altar servers, and church leaders gathered in prayerful reverence. The procession symbolized the unity of the parish community and its shared commitment to walking together in faith. The atmosphere was filled with devotion and joy as the faithful prepared themselves for the Eucharistic celebration.
The Holy Eucharist was presided over by Rev. Fr. Umesh Ekka, Parish Priest of St. Luke’s Church, who served as the main celebrant. He was joined by Rev. Fr. Suresh Babu, Assistant Parish Priest and Regional Secretary of the North Region, as concelebrant. During the celebration, prayers were offered for all BEC families, parish leaders, and members who actively contribute to the spiritual growth and mission of the parish. The congregation also offered thanksgiving for the blessings received throughout the Rosary Month and sought the continued intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
In his homily, Fr. Umesh highlighted the importance of Basic Ecclesial Communities in fostering faith, communion, and active participation within the Church. He encouraged parishioners to continue gathering in prayer, supporting one another, and living out the Gospel values within their neighborhoods and families. The faithful were reminded that BECs serve as the foundation of a vibrant parish life, helping to build stronger Christian communities rooted in prayer, service, and fellowship.
The strength of our parish lies in the faith and unity of its communities, where Christ is encountered through prayer, service, and fellowship.
Following the Eucharistic celebration, the parish community gathered for a vibrant cultural program organized by members of the various BECs. The program featured songs, dances, skits, and presentations that reflected Christian values, community spirit, and gratitude for God’s blessings. Participants of all age groups enthusiastically contributed their talents, making the event both meaningful and entertaining. The performances showcased the richness and diversity of the parish community while promoting greater participation and collaboration among the different BEC units.
The celebration concluded with a fellowship meal, where parishioners, clergy, and guests came together to share food and conversation in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The gathering provided an opportunity for members of different communities to interact, strengthen friendships, and deepen their sense of belonging within the parish family.
The Parish BEC Annual Day and Conclusion of the Rosary Month was a memorable and grace-filled occasion for St. Luke’s Church. It reaffirmed the importance of prayer, community life, and active participation in the mission of the Church. As the faithful departed with hearts filled with gratitude and renewed faith, the celebration stood as a testament to the vibrant spirit of communion and fellowship that continues to flourish within the parish.
May the Blessed Virgin Mary continue to guide and protect all families of the parish, and may the Basic Ecclesial Communities remain steadfast in their mission of building a stronger and more united Church.
